
MANILA, Philippines — Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Ret. Maj. Gen. Alfred Corpus on Friday said that security preparations are in place and that they are ready for the start of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday.
According to Corpus, different units from the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been tapped to augment Senate security for the impeachment proceedings.
“We’re all prepared to make sure that the proceedings will run smoothly,” he said in an ambush interview.

During their walkthrough, Corpus said that “enough” security personnel will be deployed throughout the trial, with officers also stationed inside the Senate building.
Meanwhile, Corpus reiterated that members of the public who wish to observe the proceedings may do so by registering through the Senate’s Visitor Management System (VMS) on a first-come, first-served basis.
As per the Senate secretariat’s earlier advisory, registration for visitors will open at 2 p.m., a day before the start of the trial. /das
