The first arrest has been made in the alleged day care abuse case at a childcare centre operating inside Capgemini's Brookefield campus.
The Bengaluru police Friday arrested one of the five caretakers booked in connection with the alleged abuse of toddlers at a daycare centre operating inside Capgemini’s Brookefield campus in the city.
Vijayalakshmi was arrested after investigators identified her as the caretaker seen in a viral video allegedly assaulting children, the police said.
The police booked Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu, and Bindu under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The police said they have issued notices to the remaining four accused, who are yet to appear before investigators.
Child rights body probe
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) said it will conduct an inquiry into the alleged abuse of toddlers at the daycare centre inside the Capgemini campus.
In a letter dated July 2, 2026, NCPCR Member Secretary Dr Sanjeev Sharma wrote to Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate P S Kantharaju, saying that the Commission had initiated an inquiry, following media reports of the alleged abuse.
“NCPCR has taken suo-motu cognizance of the matter regarding alleged physical abuse and torture of young children at a daycare centre operating within the premises of Capgemini’s Bengaluru campus in Brookefield, Whitefield, Bengaluru,” Sharma said.

NCPCR said the inquiry is being conducted as part of its mandate to protect children’s rights and monitor the implementation of child protection laws, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
As part of the inquiry, an NCPCR fact-finding team, led by Paresh Shah and including Anshita Surana, will visit Bengaluru on July 3 and 4.
The Commission has asked the Bengaluru Urban district administration to extend logistical support, including transportation and accommodation, to facilitate the team’s visit. It is expected to submit its findings upon completion of the fact-finding exercise.
Assault and intimidation
The case was registered on June 29 at the HAL Police Station based on a complaint filed by Tilakesh Kumar, Legal and Probation Officer with the District Child Protection Unit, after videos allegedly showing the abuse of toddlers at an on-campus daycare surfaced.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused caretakers are said to have assaulted and intimidated children, including allegedly locking crying toddlers inside washing machines to frighten them, forcing them into narrow water-filled pipes, confining them in bathroom spaces, and subjecting them to other forms of physical and mental abuse.
The daycare catered to children of Capgemini employees at its Brookefield campus. Following the allegations, the company temporarily shut the facility, stating it was cooperating with the investigation.
The police said further investigation is underway.
