The Ondo State Police Command has rescued a 61-year-old woman, Mrs. Modupe Oladele, who was abducted by armed men in Owo, following a midnight gun battle between police operatives and the suspected kidnappers.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident occurred in the early hours of June 23, 2026, when a gang of armed hoodlums reportedly invaded the residence of the victim and whisked her away at gunpoint.
The attackers also stole her Toyota Matrix vehicle with registration number WWW-434-AG before fleeing the scene.
DSP Jimoh disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of B Division, Owo, received a distress call at about 2.50am and immediately mobilised operatives to trail the suspects.
“The police team tracked the kidnappers to the outskirts of Ojana Phase 3, where a fierce exchange of gunfire erupted between the officers and the armed men.”
The police tactical response reportedly overwhelmed the suspects, forcing them to abandon their victim and flee into the surrounding forest.
“Mrs. Oladele was rescued unharmed during the operation, while her stolen vehicle was successfully recovered,” Jimoh added.
Items recovered at the scene include two expended cartridges, a sandal believed to belong to one of the fleeing suspects, and a touch light.
The Command said some members of the gang were suspected to have sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation, although they managed to escape into the bush.
The case has been transferred to the appropriate investigative unit for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Ondo State.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
