MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended for 30 days the operations of a jeepney after a viral video showed a passenger being thrown from the vehicle due to alleged reckless driving, the agency said Friday.
The LTFRB said it also issued a show cause order (SCO) to the operator of the jeepney bearing plate number APA-4905.
The operator was directed to explain why the unit’s certificate of public convenience or authority to operate should not be suspended or revoked in connection with the incident.

“The violations include failure to provide safe, reliable, and convenient public land transportation service and employment of a reckless driver,” the LTFRB said in a press release.
The SCO also instructed the operator to surrender the license plate of the jeepney and subject the said driver to a mandatory drug test and road safety seminar. The vehicle will also undergo a roadworthiness inspection.
In the said viral video from a dashcam, a passenger was thrown out of the jeepney heading to Cubao, Quezon City due to the driver’s reported reckless driving last June 23. With this, LTFRB chairperson Atty. Vigor Mendoza warned public utility vehicle drivers to prioritize the safety of their passengers while they are on the road.
“Public utility vehicles are neither built nor approved to operate for car racing. As PUV drivers it is always incumbent upon you to prioritize the safety of your passengers at all times,” Mendoza said in the same press release.

“We will not tolerate this kind of reckless behavior of the driver and will make sure that he will learn his lesson from this incident,” Mendoza added.

The LTFRB scheduled the hearing of the case on July 14, 2026, noting that the agency will discuss if the affected passenger received assistance after the incident.
With this, the agency warned that non-compliance with the SCO will result in a P5,000 penalty and revocation of the jeepney’s franchise. /jpv
