Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources aims to complete its 2026-2035 National Energy General Plan (RUEN) by September 2026 after conducting public consultations across several provinces, a senior official said on Friday.
The roadmap will guide the country's energy supply, demand, and transition strategy over the next decade. It is scheduled for completion within one year after the revised National Energy Policy (KEN) was issued in October 2025.
"We are currently conducting public consultations in several provinces. We have already held one in Semarang, and next week we will likely go to Papua," Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Ahmad Erani Yustika told reporters at the ministry's office in Jakarta.
The ministry plans to hold consultations in around six locations to gather input from regional governments, industry players, experts, and the public before finalizing the document.
"We are traveling to different regions for public consultations so that people can participate and provide their input," Erani said.
He said the ministry expects to finalize the plan in September, ahead of the statutory deadline.
"We hope the RUEN will be completed in September. The deadline is no later than one year after the National Energy Policy was issued last October, so we expect it to be finished by September," he said.
Once finalized, the RUEN will be enacted through a presidential regulation, providing the legal framework for Indonesia's long-term energy planning.
The ministry launched the drafting process in April 2026 through an initial meeting involving ministries, government agencies, and energy-sector stakeholders.
The 2026-2035 RUEN will outline national energy demand, resource potential, supply strategies, decarbonization targets, energy indicators, investment projections, and financing strategies.
The plan will also include region-specific energy supply and demand projections across seven energy regions, reflecting differences in resource availability, energy systems, and development levels.
Under Presidential Regulation No. 73 of 2023, members of the public with relevant expertise or knowledge may submit written proposals, data, and information during the drafting process.
The ministry said the updated RUEN is expected to serve as the country's main policy reference for strengthening energy security, supporting decarbonization efforts, and ensuring a sustainable national energy supply.
