
MANILA, Philippines — Catholic movement Clergy for Good Governance will hold a pilgrimage walk calling for truth and justice around the Senate on Saturday morning ahead of the start of impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The clergy said that the activity named “A Jericho Walk for Truth and Justice” will begin at 7 a.m. with “one prayerful circuit around the Senate, about 30 to 45 minutes, with moments of Scripture, silence, and reflection along the way.”

“Inspired by the story of Jericho, Kingdom Keepers and Clergy for Good Governance invite people of faith and goodwill to a prayerful pilgrimage around the Senate, trusting that truth and justice will prevail through conscience, constitutional duty, and peace,” it said in a Facebook post.

It added that the activity will be open to everyone “regardless of tradition or political affiliation.” It then encouraged attendees to bring water, a hat, wear comfortable shoes or a brown attire.
The program will also be convened by Kingdom Keepers, a coalition of Catholic, Evangelical, and mainline Protestant churches and individuals.
The clergy said that the pilgrimage walk will pray for the “seven graces our country needs” which include: truth, justice, courage, integrity, accountability, healing, and hope.
Duterte’s much-anticipated trial will begin on July 6, Monday, with the Senate impeachment court ordering her to appear at the start of the trial. Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Ret. Maj. Gen. Alfred Corpus on Friday said that Senate security is prepared for the proceedings.

The clergy on Thursday offered a mass for the House prosecution team, with Msgr. Mel David urging the 11-man panel to find strength in their role in the impeachment trial, saying that: “In this task and responsibility, we recognize that lawmakers and private prosecutors need to have courage… [and] the strength to carry the burden of the whole Filipino people searching for the truth and for the right path that we’ll take in the future.”
Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives last May 11 over four grounds: alleged misuse of confidential funds under the Office of the Vice President and Department of Education (DepEd); alleged unexplained wealth; alleged distribution of monetary gifts or payments to DepEd officials; assassination threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., first lady Liza Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez. /mr
