Former Juventus and AC Milan manager
Massimiliano Allegro in Friday took over at Napoli replacing
Antonio Conte who is tipped for the vacant Italy job.
"Welcome, Max," said club President Aurelio De Laurentiis
announcing the hire.
The deal was made official with an Instagram post featuring a
photo of Allegri wearing a Napoli 'N' pin on his lapel.
Following De Laurentiis's post, Napoli's website also made
Allegri's signing official, specifying the length of his
contract: the manager has signed a deal until June 30, 2029, or
for the next three seasons.
AC Milan sacked the 58-year-old Livorno-born tactician after a
slump in form saw them fail to qualify for next season's
Champions League.
Former Spurs, Chelsea, Inter, Juve and Italy boss Conte left the
Partenopei after two years in charge.
The 56-year-old from Lecce, a former Juventus and Italy
midfielder, led the Naples side to their fourth Serie A title in
2025 , the Italian Super Cup last December and a second-placed
finish this past term.
He has been linked to a return to the Italy bench, among other
things, after Rino Gattuso stepped down after the Azzurri failed
to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in succession, a
record for former champions.
Gattuso has taken over from Maurizio Sarri at Lazio.
Former Inter, Man City and Italy coach Roberto Mancini has also
been linked with a return to the Azzurri post.
