Peter Mullan (“I Swear”), Rebecca Lucy Taylor (“Teeth nSmiles”) and Iwan Rheon (“Game Of Thrones”) will lead director Celyn Jones’ next film “Mountain.”
Jones is known for co-directing Rebel Wilson starrer “The Almond and the Seahorse” as well as co-writing “The Vanishing,” which featured Gerard Butler, and “Set Fire to the Stars,” which saw Elijah Wood play poet John M. Brinnin.
Described as a coming of age story, “Mountain” is set in 1980s Wales where GG (played by newcomer Seth Isaac Thomas), a neglected, young boy, is searching for friendship and community. Mullan plays Bill, who lives in isolation on the mountain.
“Their lives collide by chance forming a brief but enduring connection,” reads the logline. “Proving that, even though the world can appear cruel, life is inherently good and will find a way to survive.”
The film began shooting on location in Anglesey, North Wales, at the end of June.
“When I read the script, I emailed Celyn and said ‘You made me cry, I’m in!’” Mullan said. “It will be great for us to work together again and in such a beautiful part of the world too.”
Jones said: “I’m honoured to bring a world class team, on both sides of the camera, to my home town of Holyhead on Anglesey. Despite being a fiction, this feels a deeply personal film for me, with emotional themes and humour that many can relate to. I’m really looking forward to bringing it to life and sharing the cinematic beauty of home with the world.”
Lisa Baker co-writes the screenplay, which is produced by Nadia Jaynes, Sean Marley and Rachel Richardson-Jones. Paul Baker executive produces. Production company is Mad As Bird Films.
The original soundtrack is by Bill Ryder Jones and casting by Ollie Gilbert & Katy Covell.
Mullan is repped by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin, Rebecca Lucy Taylor by United Agents, Iwan Rheon by Curtis Brown, Seth Isaac Thomas by Curtis Brown and Celyn Jones by United Agents.
