Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno said his ministry is promoting the National Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children (RANA) Movement to ensure children's safety and well-being across various environments.
Speaking after a meeting with Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X here on Friday, Pratikno said the visit aimed to seek the governor's support for implementing the national program in the 2026/2027 academic year.
"At the national level, we have the RANA Movement, which stands for Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children National Movement. Children must be guaranteed safety and comfort, whether at home, in educational institutions, public spaces, or the digital space," he said.
According to him, Yogyakarta is known as Indonesia's education city, and its various educational innovations are expected to make it a pioneer in implementing the national program.
"That is why we are seeking the support of Ngarso Dalem (Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X). The Yogyakarta Special Region is an education city with many innovative initiatives. Therefore, the RANA Movement will also be pioneered in Yogyakarta," he said.
During the meeting, the two also discussed local government initiatives to ensure access to education for children with disabilities.
"We must provide equal access to education for all Indonesian children, including children with disabilities, whose numbers are significant and whose disabilities are diverse," he said.
Pratikno cited sign language education as an example, noting that such programs should not only target deaf children but also hearing children, as communication must take place between both groups.
"Ngarso Dalem also expressed hope that it (sign language program) would be strengthened with training programs to help people with disabilities gain access to employment opportunities," he said.
