MANILA, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas girls’ team was relegated to the classification round of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Girls’ U18 Championship after getting swept by Indonesia, 22-25, 13-25, 26-28, on Thursday at Terminal 21 Hall in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
The national youth team made one last push in the third set, fighting back from a 19-23 deficit behind the trio of Xyz Rayco, Sharina Rhayza Lleses and setter Micaella Gould to tie it set twice before the Filipinos reached set point, 25-24, after Ella Gonzalvo’s kill.

Venisa Dwi Oktaviani saved the set point and gave Indonesia match point after Gonzalvo’s attack error, but the latter tied the set again at 26-all. Tina Sabila Salim restored Indonesia’s lead, and another Gonzalvo attack error allowed Indonesia to complete the straight-set win.

Indonesia finished Pool C with a 2-1 record, joining unbeaten Japan (3-0) in the quarterfinals.
The Philippines ended the preliminary round with a 1-2 record, suffering back-to-back losses after also falling to last year’s runner-up Japan.
The Alas girls couldn’t replicate their five-set win over Indonesia last week to win the Princess Cup bronze. They begin their classification round against Uzbekistan on Sunday.

Gonzalvo, the Princess Cup Best Outside Spiker, led Alas Pilipinas with 14 points from 12 kills and two aces. Rayco had 10 points, while Lleses added eight.
Salim, Oktaviani, and Khanza Putri Yanzi Ganeshtri powered Indonesia with 14 points each, while Rowina Ulfiyah Taci Azmi chipped in 11 points.
