LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Task Force Bantay Pabuto has been formed in Barangay Babag in Lapu-Lapu City to strengthen the enforcement of fireworks regulations and ensure public safety during the holiday season.
The task force was organized during a Pyrotechnic Coordination Meeting held on July 2 at the Barangay Babag Sports Complex, in line with Mayor Cindi King-Chan’s directive to promote a safer Lapu-Lapu City.

According to the Lapu-Lapu City Information Office, the meeting gathered 123 members of fireworks producer cooperatives and retailers, along with barangay officials and representatives from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
Key measures
During the meeting, the barangay council agreed to implement three key measures:
identifying designated areas for lighting fireworks to reduce risks in densely populated communities,
organizing Task Force Bantay Pabuto to conduct inspections and enforce regulations, and
designating a specific venue for the December 2026 fireworks display to better manage large-scale pyrotechnic activities.
Barangay Captain Eulogio Manayon said the creation of the task force is a proactive measure aimed at balancing holiday celebrations with public safety and disaster preparedness.
The meeting concluded with an open forum, a review of the agreements reached, and the presentation of long-term action plans for the initiative.
