Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) is strengthening its partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Indonesia and ASEAN to accelerate the country's transition toward a low-carbon and green economy.
Both parties are committed to optimizing the use of AKSARA - the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Application for Low-Carbon and Climate-Resilient Development Actions - as a strategic platform for data-driven green economy policymaking.
"The partnership with GIZ fully supports efforts to strengthen institutional capacity for greener and more sustainable development," Commission Manager of the Climate and Biodiversity Hub at GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN, Karin Allgoewer said in a statement received on Friday.
"The AKSARA application plays a strategic role in transforming administrative records of emission reduction activities into a reliable database that supports economic competitiveness and climate resilience. Strengthening regional capacity is essential to ensuring well-targeted green financing," she added.
According to Allgoewer, through AKSARA, the Indonesian government is working to improve the accuracy and integration of emission reduction data to support sustainable development policies.
The partnership also aims to strengthen greenhouse gas emission calculation methodologies and enhance the capacity of local governments in implementing reporting systems that support green financing.
Allgoewer said GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN contributes to the partnership by assisting in the development of accurate and internationally recognized greenhouse gas (GHG) emission calculation methodologies, integrating monitoring systems, and strengthening regional capacity.
The organization also supports the Indonesian government in implementing a more transparent emission reduction reporting system in line with the Paris Agreement and the Enhanced Transparency Framework.
She noted that AKSARA enables local governments to map, monitor, and evaluate emission reduction initiatives on a regular basis.
The application is also integrated with the Climate Budget Tagging feature through the CONNECT platform, which was jointly developed with Indonesia's Ministry of Finance. The integration enables climate-related regional spending to be monitored in a more transparent and accountable manner.
With a transparent and measurable reporting system, Allgoewer said Indonesia is expected to strengthen investor confidence in low-carbon development projects.
