Aboitiz boosts renewable energy with Pangasinan solar farm

SAN MANUEL, PANGASINAN—Aboitiz Power Corp. added 92 megawatts (MW) to the country’s power generation capacity with the inauguration on Tuesday of the San Manuel Solar Power Plant in this town.

The new facility brings to four the company’s solar power plants in Pangasinan.

Aboitiz Power president Danel Aboitiz said the company continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio because “we believe reliable, accessible, and affordable power is key to national progress.”

Viable location

The company also operates the Laoag 1 and Laoag 2 solar power plants in Aguilar, with a combined capacity of 153 MW, and the Cayanga Solar Power Plant in Bugallon, which generates 94 MW.

Aboitiz said completing the San Manuel plant “reminded us that true progress is never a solo effort.”

“We faced many challenges with the initial site, but the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the local government worked closely with us to identify a viable location,” he said.

Located in the mountainous village of San Roque, the solar facility occupies 102 hectares and is equipped with more than 150,000 solar panels.

Sean Chen, Aboitiz Power’s chief project development and execution officer, said the San Manuel Solar Power Plant increases the company’s total solar generation capacity in Pangasinan to more than 300 MW.

He said the facility is designed to generate 146 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually—enough to supply electricity to more than 75,000 households.

Construction of the power plant began on Sept. 24, 2024.
