Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce's Wedding Guests Leave Rehearsal Dinner With Gift Boxes
For Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce is her NY.
So much so, that the couple decided to have their wedding at Madison Square Garden in New York City July 3. And while fans have been speculating about the reason behind the venue choice, one theory is that the event space is actually an easter egg related to icon Elizabeth Taylor.
Swift has long praised the late movie star in the years prior to her big day, first referencing the Giant actress' marriage to Richard Burton in “...Ready For It?” in 2017. Fast forward eight years later, and the Grammy winner would name a track after her for one of her songs on The Life of a Showgirl.
As for Taylor and her connection to MSG, in 1957, her then-husband Mike Todd threw an epic party to celebrate the first anniversary of his film Around the World in 80 Days. And the bash was one to remember as there were 18,000 guests, 12 elephants and a giant 14-foot-high cake, according to The New York Times, of which Taylor had the honor of slicing.
Swift's possible biggest easter egg yet also comes nine months after the release of her track paying homage to the actress. It's a reference that has stayed in the minds closest to Taylor, including her son Christopher Wilding.
“She and my mom do seem like kindred spirits,” Wilding told People in October. “They are both the very embodiment of female empowerment. The way [Swift] has deftly captured the similarities and parallel tracks in their careers and personal lives is delightful.”

For Wilding, he knows his mother—who died in 2011—would be simply enchanted with the singer.
“Even as I believe my mother was for hers, Taylor Swift is an inspirational role model for her generation,” he added. “Her advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights as well as her philanthropic work would have garnered her great admiration from my mother had they had a chance to get to know one another.”
