Four-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Kano Pillars, have appointed Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, as their new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/2027 season, on a two-year deal, Saturday PUNCH reports.
The club confirmed the appointment in a statement on its official X account on Friday, ending speculation over who would take charge of the Sai Masu Gida for the new campaign.
“We’ve reached an agreement to appoint Daniel Ogunmodede (Ijaball) as our new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026-2027 football season. Welcome to Kano and the Sai Masu Gida family. We are happy to have you with us,” the club announced.
The 46-year-old, popularly known as Ijaball, holds a UEFA B Licence and joins Pillars on the back of an impressive spell with Remo Stars, whom he guided to their first-ever NPFL title during the 2024-2025 season, ending years of near misses for the Ikenne-based club.
He stepped down from his role as Technical Adviser of Remo Stars towards the end of last season after overseeing one of the most successful periods in the club’s history, and until his latest appointment, also served as one of the assistants to Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, a role he is expected to combine with his new position.

According to the club’s Media Director, Isma’eel Tangalashi, the appointment forms part of an ongoing restructuring aimed at strengthening the technical bench and improving performances in both domestic and continental competitions.
Ogunmodede replaces Muhammad Babaganaru and takes over a Kano Pillars side that narrowly avoided relegation, finishing 15th in the 2025/2026 NPFL season with 48 points from 38 matches.
His arrival also means he will now work with former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, who remains one of the club’s most experienced players.
Kano Pillars are expected to officially unveil the former Remo Stars boss in the coming days as preparations intensify for the new league campaign.
