Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce officially tied the knot in a long-awaited wedding celebration on Friday evening, a representative for the singer confirmed.
The star-studded event was held in Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York City in front of around 1,000 guests. Purple screens outside of the iconic event venue displayed the words “JUST&T MARRIED” after 7 p.m. — a reference to the couple’s matching first initials.
Here’s what we know:
It’s been ‘a long time coming’
The pop star and football player began dating in 2023 during Swift’s record-breaking “Eras Tour,” after Kelce attempted to gift Swift a friendship bracelet at her performance in Kansas City.
His efforts to reach the singer were unsuccessful at the time, but they later connected after he spoke about the experience on his podcast, “New Heights,” which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce.
“She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personal,” he said.
Kelce proposed to Swift after around two years of dating last August.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift announced in an Instagram post.
Custom looks
The bride and groom both wore Christian Dior Haute Couture, designed by Jonathan Anderson, Swift’s representative, Tree Paine, said in a statement reported by multiple media outlets. The singer has been known to wear looks from the designer brand on and off stage.
Christian Louboutin made custom shoes for the couple, and Swift wore Cartier jewelry, according to Paine.
Who was in the wedding?
The bride and groom did not have traditional wedding parties, Paine said. Swift’s brother, Austin Swift, served as the singer’s “Man of Honor.”
Jason Kelce, the groom’s brother and co-podcast host, served as his best man.
Adam Sandler officiated the couple’s union. The comedian is a close friend of both Kelce and Swift, and he and the groom acted in “Happy Gilmore 2” last year.
An NYC celebration
The area around MSG effectively shut down in the hours leading up to this event as a steady stream of celebrities, family members and friends poured into the venue.
Guests were asked to follow a no-phone policy throughout the night, according to multiple reports. The festivities kicked off at 4:30 p.m. and are anticipated to stretch into the early hours on Saturday morning.
Renowned performer Stevie Nicks, a longtime friend of Swift’s, is expected to perform at the event, CNN reported earlier on Friday.
The Empire State Building also joined in on the celebration, with a social media post announcing that the iconic skyscraper will glow blue as “her something blue” on Saturday evening.
