CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Local government officials and the military commemorated the fourth anniversary of Davao del Norte’s declaration as an insurgency-free province on Friday, July 3.
Gov. Edwin Jubahib and Maj. Gen. Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10th Infantry Division (10ID), led the activity held at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City, with both officials reaffirming their commitment to government’s whole-of-nation approach to peace and security.
Davao del Norte was officially declared insurgency-free in 2022 following integrated campaigns that dismantled communist influence in the area.

In his address, Luzon recalled the decades of armed conflict in the province, particularly in Talaingod’s Pantaron Mountain Range, where indigenous communities were previously exploited by insurgent groups.
“Today, our greatest task is to safeguard the peace we have won, strengthen the trust we have built, and ensure that the next generation will never have to experience the fears of the past,” Luzon said in a statement.
The 10ID reported that its entire area of operation “currently remains free of active New People’s Army units.” /das
