MANILA, Philippines — Former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca, who figured in an exchange of gunfire at the Senate in May, has been dismissed from service, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said Sunday, July 4.
In an interview with dzRH radio, the Ombudsman confirmed he had signed the dismissal order against Aplasca on Monday, June 29, without providing details on the decision.
“Acting Sergeant-at-Arms in the Senate and Sergeant-at-Arms of the Commission on Appointments, we have dismissed from service,” Remulla said.

The decision will be released this week, the ombudsman said.
“We will release the decision for people to see because it is difficult to explain,” Remulla stated.
Previously, the Ombudsman ordered a six-month suspension against Aplasca amid investigations on the Senate shooting last May 13.

Aplasca, then the acting Senate sergeant-at-arms, reportedly fired the first warning shot that triggered an exchange of gunfire inside the Senate building.
At the time, Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa was taken into preventive custody by the Senate amid a purported attempt by authorities to serve an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court. /das
