Dong Omaga-Diaz, national director for the Philippines to the Precious of Malaysia International Fashion Festival, said the Philippine team was chosen through a rigorous nationwide evaluation from hundreds of applicants.
Oyao and Appao recently showcased their collections during the 7th Manila International Fashion Week (MIFW) – Modest Fashion: Experience BARMM, through the support of the Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism (MTIT) and the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG).
In a statement, the MTIT said Kari is an established Bangsamoro designer recognized for seamlessly blending traditional Moro aesthetics with contemporary fashion, creating pieces that celebrate the region’s cultural identity.
Their selection reflects the growing recognition of Bangsamoro designers in the Philippine fashion industry and provides another international platform for the region’s creative talent.
With their inclusion into the Philippine team, the three designers also carry with them the artistry, craftsmanship, and cultural traditions that continue to shape the Bangsamoro identity, the MTIT said. INQ
