
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Supporters of Senator Risa Hontiveros formally launched a Cebu-based campaign backing her potential presidential bid in the 2028 national elections on Saturday, July 4, drawing representatives from various sectors and progressive organizations across the province.
Held at a university in Cebu City, the “Risa Na, Cebu” launch gathered members of the youth, labor, urban poor, fisherfolk, women, LGBTQIA+ community, religious sector, academe, professionals, and other people’s organizations, who expressed support for Hontiveros’ potential run for the country’s highest office.

Supporters filled sections of the venue wearing shirts bearing Hontiveros’ name, raising placards, while chants echoed inside the coliseum as the program opened.
Members of progressive organizations, including Partido Manggagawa (PM), SENTRO, and Samahang Magdalo, also attended the gathering, waving their organizational flags as they joined supporters from various sectors.

Several sectoral representatives later took the stage to explain why they were backing Hontiveros, citing issues affecting fisherfolk, informal workers, and other communities they represent.
Organizers said the event aimed to formally launch Cebu’s support campaign for Hontiveros ahead of the 2028 elections.
