The Association for Abandoned Animals (AAA) has shared a series of heartbreaking photos after rescuing a small dog that arrived at the shelter covered in what is suspected to be razor burns.
The dog, now named Rita, was reportedly passed between several owners before eventually ending up in the care of the animal welfare organisation.
According to AAA, Rita required immediate medical treatment and medication when she arrived. Thankfully, the shelter says she is now doing “much better” as she continues her recovery.
Sharing Rita’s story on social media, the organisation said her case is a stark reminder of the abuse and neglect many animals experience before being rescued.
“So sad, how animals are being mistreated,” AAA wrote.
The post sparked an outpouring of support online, with many expressing heartbreak and anger over Rita’s condition while wishing her a speedy recovery.
The Association for Abandoned Animals said it will continue updating supporters as Rita progresses on her road to recovery.
