MANILA, Philippines – Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Sunday praised Alex Eala’s historic run at Wimbledon, calling the Filipina tennis star a “unifier of a deeply divided nation.”
Lacson thanked the 21-year-old athlete in a social media post on Sunday morning.
“She is the detoxifier that our country’s highly toxic atmosphere needs and an influential unifier of a deeply divided nation. Thank you, Alex Eala, for lifting the Filipino spirit. God bless you and the Philippines,” the senator said.

Lacson previously hailed Eala during her second-round Wimbledon campaign, describing her as having an “indomitable spirit” that makes “every Filipino proud” after she defeated Australia’s Maya Joint.
In the same social media post, Lacson took a dig at the simultaneous rallies in support of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, who now faces a plunder complaint before the Sandiganbayan.
Alex Eala defeated six-time Grand Slam singles champion and Polish star Iga Swiatek on Saturday, advancing to the fourth round, where she will face Jasmine Paolini. /mcm
