GURGAON: A 21-year-old man whose body was recovered from a canal in Rewari two days after he went missing was allegedly murdered by his wife and her associates as part of a conspiracy linked to her extramarital affair.Police arrested the deceased's wife, Tannu, a resident of Kasoli village, and Hariom, a resident of Mundanwas, while two other accused, including her alleged lover Sonu and his associate Aman, are on the run.Bawal DSP Surendra Sheoran said Monu, a resident of Jarthal village, left his home on an electric scooter on the night of June 8 to buy medicine and did not return. His father, Ratan Lal, lodged a missing complaint at Kasola police station on June 9, after which police launched a search. On June 10, Monu's body was found in the Asalwas canal, while his scooter was lying on the canal bank. The forensic team inspected the spot and no visible external injury marks were found on the body, making the case appear to be one of accidental drowning. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to the family. However, the investigation took a turn after Monu's family expressed suspicion over the circumstances of his death.
Police added murder charges and began a detailed probe using technical surveillance and intelligence inputs."The matter appeared suspicious and the family members also raised doubts. With the help of intelligence inputs and technical evidence, we found that Monu had got married only a few days ago. His wife Tannu was unhappy with the marriage and had an old love affair with a youth named Sonu. They hatched a conspiracy to eliminate him," DSP Sheoran said.According to police, Tannu called Monu to Kasoli village on the night of June 8. Hariom and Aman, who had allegedly been sent by Sonu, were already waiting there."As soon as Monu reached the village, they caught hold of him, covered his mouth and nose and believed he had either died or become completely unconscious. They then threw him into the canal," the DSP said.He added that the final cause of death is yet to be established."We are awaiting the FSL report, which will clarify whether he died due to suffocation or drowned after being thrown into the canal, and whether he was alive at the time he was dumped into the water," Sheoran said.Police arrested Tannu and Hariom on Thursday evening. They were produced before a court on Friday and remanded to two days' police custody. Investigators are questioning them to trace the remaining accused and establish the role of each conspirator."The deceased's family has also expressed suspicion about the involvement of the woman's family members. That angle is also being investigated," the DSP said.Police said Monu had been doing odd jobs and had recently started a shop in Jaliyawas. Investigators believe Tannu remained in regular contact with her alleged lover even after the marriage, and the murder was planned to remove Monu from their way.Efforts are underway to arrest Sonu and Aman, police said.
