It wasn't a luxury home or a dream vacation that grabbed people's attention this time. Instead, it was a simple video from a corporate couple explaining how a change in their living situation quietly altered their monthly spending. The post has sparked conversations about remote work, rising living costs, and whether stepping away from city life can naturally reduce everyday expenses. What caught people's attention even more was that the couple says saving money was never part of the plan.
Why they chose to leave the city
Anjali, who runs a joint Instagram account with Naman under the name @anjali.aur.naman, shared that they moved to Manali while continuing their corporate jobs remotely. In the video, she says, “We accidentally started saving over ₹30,000 every month without even trying. Hi, we are Anjali and Naman, a remote corporate couple living in Manali. We didn’t move here to save money; we moved here to experience slow travel while keeping our corporate jobs.”
The small changes that added up
After settling in Manali, several day-to-day expenses started shrinking on their own. Their monthly rent reduced from ₹45,000 to ₹28,000, resulting in a saving of ₹17,000.
With no daily office commute, another ₹3,000 stayed in their pocket every month.
They also stopped spending around ₹5,000 on office dinners. Regular coffee runs and quick snacks, which were once a routine expense, now save them another ₹2,500 every month. The biggest surprise, according to Anjali, was their weekends. Earlier, they used to spend around ₹5,000 to ₹6,000 every month on trips just to take a break from city life.
After moving to Manali, that expense disappeared.
‘The saving was just a bonus’
Even after sharing the numbers, Anjali said the financial benefit was never the purpose behind the move. She said, “We didn’t choose remote work to spend less; we chose it to live differently. The saving was just a bonus.”The video was posted with the caption “Saved ₹30,000 living in Manali.”
The internet had plenty to say
The video has received limited reactions, but it has started conversations around remote work and the costs that often come with city living. One user wrote, “But doesn’t it get too quiet in the evenings? Since I’ve lived in a metropolitan city all my life, I think I’m just used to the noise. I do agree that everyone needs some peace and quiet every now and then, but shifting my whole life to a remote village in Manali feels a little unrealistic for me.”Another commented, “Saving ₹30,000 while living in Manali sounds like a dream many corporate employees secretly want.”A third user wrote, “City life makes you spend money just to recover from city life.Another added, “This is the real benefit of work from anywhere, better lifestyle and lower expenses.”Disclaimer: This article is based on a video shared on Instagram and the claims made by the content creator.
