Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs has emphasized that strengthening digital talent is a main factor in determining Indonesia's position amid increasingly intense global technological competition.
"Digital talent is the determining factor. With strong human capabilities, we can overcome infrastructure limitations and enhance competitiveness," Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said in a statement here on Sunday.
He said that global technological competition is no longer based solely on infrastructure, but also on the mastery of talent and innovation capabilities.
This situation requires Indonesia to strengthen its human resource capacity so that it is not only a technology user, but also part of the global technology development value chain.
Patria explained that the current development of digital technology is marked by rapid global competition, including in computing infrastructure and artificial intelligence.
In this context, Indonesia still faces challenges in strengthening its position in the global technology supply chain.
According to him, strengthening digital talent is key to enhancing the country's capacity to respond to these changes.
"Indonesia must move beyond being merely a technology user. We need to become part of the creation process, not just the utilization," he said.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration with universities as centers for digital talent development.
Universities are considered a strategic entry point for building an innovation ecosystem that is aligned with industry needs and government policies.
The government is currently implementing digital talent development programs through collaboration with various universities across Indonesia, including the AI Talent Factory program conducted at several campuses both on and outside Java.
Patria also emphasized that strengthening digital talent is not limited to technical aspects, but also includes understanding global dynamics, including the geopolitical aspects of technology and the rapidly evolving digital economic structure.
