President Trump marked the nation’s 250th birthday with a late Saturday night speech that blended the championing of American achievements with partisan rhetoric.
Trump’s address lasted about 30 minutes — not as long as he promised days before extreme heat and weather impacted the Fourth of July celebrations in Washington on Saturday.
As the president warns that the “evil of communism” is among the threats he believes the country is facing, the growing wave of primary victories by democratic socialists is poised to pose a major challenge for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) if Democrats retake the House this fall.
Jeffries’s counterpart, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), is among the officials scheduled to make appearances on the Sunday morning talk show circuit after the holiday. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) are also set to appear on the shows.
Trump doesn’t have an event on his public schedule for Sunday.
