The Gombe State Police Command has arrested eight suspected members of a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in armed robbery and cyber-related financial crimes in parts of the state.
Police said the suspects specialised in stealing mobile phones during robbery attacks and exploiting information stored on the devices to gain unauthorised access to victims’ bank accounts.
The breakthrough followed a complaint lodged on June 7, 2026, by Hassan Muhammad and Jibril Hassan, residents of Wuro Biriji in Akko Local Government Area, who reported that armed men invaded their homes and carted away their mobile phones.
Investigations revealed that the suspects used information obtained from the stolen devices to access the victims’ bank accounts, fraudulently withdrawing ₦296,790 from a GTBank account belonging to one of the victims.

They also allegedly obtained and cashed out a quick loan worth ₦205,205.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Gombe State, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said investigations and technical analysis of the transactions led operatives to a Moniepoint account linked to one of the suspects.
According to him, the development culminated in the arrest of Mustapha Kabiru, popularly known as “Musty Bobo”, a 19-year-old National Diploma II Computer Science student of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, on June 29, 2026.
He said the suspect confessed during interrogation to using information extracted from stolen mobile phones to perpetrate fraudulent transactions, adding that his confession led to the arrest of seven other suspected members of the gang.
Further investigations indicated that the syndicate had allegedly been involved in more than 13 similar incidents in Wuro Biriji, Riyal, Bomala and Jauro Jatau communities in the state.
DSP Abdullahi said investigations were ongoing, while efforts had been intensified to apprehend other members of the syndicate who remain at large.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, as commending operatives for their diligence and professionalism in dismantling the criminal network.
The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating all forms of criminality, particularly cybercrime and violent offences, and urged residents to safeguard their personal information and digital devices and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
