Witnesses are being sought by police to help solve a stabbing at a Whangārei party they say could have ended in tragedy.
A young man was stabbed just before midnight on Friday during a party on Forest View Rd, in Te Kamo, Detective Sergeant Ryan Cooper said.
He said about 200 people were present at the time and the stabbing followed a fight between two people.
"We know there was a fight and a young man has been seriously injured as a result. We also know that there were people there who know those involved and we would like to speak to them," he said.
"I want to stress that this appears to be an isolated incident between two individuals, and we don't believe there is a risk to the wider public."
Cooper wanted anyone with footage of the stabbing, or of the party around that time, to upload it to an anonymous police portal.
People could also call 105 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The case reference number was 260704/5190.
Cooper said the victim has had surgery and was now in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
