Forecast tracks indicated the super typhoon will pass closest to Batanes before a possible landfall in Taiwan.
Despite remaining offshore, it may still bring gusty winds and enhance the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.
Pagasa said gusty conditions could begin affecting parts of the country between Tuesday and Wednesday.
The enhanced habagat may also bring heavy rainfall over the northern and western portions of the country starting Thursday, July 9.
Some areas in the Visayas and Mindanao may likewise experience scattered rain showers as early as Wednesday due to the strengthened southwest monsoon.
Fair weather continues
Meanwhile, Pagasa said generally fair weather will continue to prevail across most parts of the country on Monday.
However, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may still develop during the afternoon and evening due to localized weather conditions.
As of Monday morning, the weather bureau had not issued any gale warning over the country’s coastal waters.
