MANILA, Philippines — As Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial begins on Monday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has stepped up 24/7 cyber patrols and warned against spreading false information or online content that could incite violence.
The impeachment case against Duterte includes allegations of misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, and death threats, all of which she has repeatedly denied.
“Disinformation that seeks to incite violence or undermine our democratic institutions is a direct threat to public safety,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Monday.
