
BACOLOD CITY — A 36-year-old food cart vendor was killed, and two teenage vendors were injured after a fuel tanker truck allegedly driven by a man who fell asleep at the wheel plowed into them along the national highway in Barangay Palaka, Valladolid, Negros Occidental, on Sunday.
The crash occurred at 4:15 p.m. when the 57-year-old driver of a HOWO T7 fuel tanker, which was heading north toward Bago City, reportedly fell asleep while driving, according to Police Master Sgt. Eduardo Combong, the Valladolid police traffic investigator.

The tanker, owned by PRO Logistics Solutions Phil. Inc. of Alabang in Muntinlupa City, veered off the road after the driver lost control and struck the three vendors, who were tending their food carts along the roadside.

Personnel from the Valladolid Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office rushed the victims to Valladolid District Hospital, where the 36-year-old woman was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The other victims—a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl—sustained injuries and remain under medical treatment.
The truck driver, a resident of Bacolod City, is now under police custody pending the filing of appropriate charges, Combong said./coa
