
Jericho Rosales and Maris Racal emerged as the biggest acting winners at the 9th Entertainment Editors’ Choice Awards (The Eddys), organized by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd).
Rosales was named Best Actor for his performance in “Quezon,” while Racal took home the Best Actress award for “Sunshine” during the awards night in Pasay City on Sunday night, July 5.
In his acceptance speech, Rosales gave a shoutout to his mother, who’s battling Alzheimer, and his girlfriend actress Janine Gutierrez.

“My mother’s not watching this because she has Alzheimer’s and I don’t know why I want to say this but this is for you mama. I love you so much. To my family, when things get tough, I want you guys to know that you are my greatest mission. Nag artista ako para sainyo. Thank you Janine, for holding my hand,” said the actor, holding back his tears.

Rosales recently made headlines after his brother, Jeremiah, was reported missing. The actor later announced that his brother has been found and is “safe in the province.”

Racal, on the other hand, underscored how she feels similarly with her character in “Sunshine,” as she extended words of encouragement to people who find themselves stumbling at one point in their lives.
“Sunshine is a girl who has so much promise, who had big dreams, who had such a bright future ahead of her, pero nadapa, nagkamali, this feels familiar to me. I know the feeling of almost losing everything… Sa lahat ng mga nadapa, bangon lang. Kung maingay man, drown out the noise and remember who you are,” she said in tears.

It can be recalled that Racal got caught up in a cheating controversy in 2024 with actor Anthony Jennings, who at the time had a non-showbiz girlfriend.
Meanwhile, “Quezon” also dominated the awards night, winning Best Picture and earning Jerrold Tarog the Best Director trophy.

Rochelle Pangilinan won Best Supporting Actress for “Child No. 82,” while Rico Blanco (Manila’s Finest) and Will Ashley (Bar Boys: After School) shared the Best Supporting Actor award after tying in the category.
Presented annually by SPEEd, the awards recognize outstanding achievements in Philippine cinema and honor the industry’s top films and personalities.
SPEEd is composed of current and former entertainment editors from leading newspapers and online news organizations in the Philippines.
