Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has ensured clean water distribution to residents facing shortages amid drought in Semarang District, Central Java, and Pasuruan District, East Java.
Head of the BNPB Center for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Abdul Muhari said that the agency had begun supplying clean water to several areas to ensure adequate access as water sources dry up.
"As we enter the dry season, we begin to see drought causing issues with clean water in several regions. Our regional offices are working to tackle the situation in coordination with village administrations," he noted in a statement received here on Monday.
He stated that water distribution is being prioritized for several areas in Semarang, most notably for residents in Kemitir Village, Sumowono Subdistrict, following up on drought reports received on Saturday (July 4).
The Semarang District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), he added, has deployed two trucks carrying a total of 10,000 liters of clean water to Kemitir villagers residing in the Ngoho area.
Muhari cited a report from BNPB’s Directorate of Operation Control Coordination, saying the supply is intended to meet the daily needs of 84 residents from 60 households.
He also reported a similar operation in Pasuruan District, where clean water is being channeled to two areas hit hardest by drought in Kadungrejo Village, Winongan Subdistrict.
According to him, the Pasuruan District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has mobilized tanker trucks and water storage tanks to make four deliveries catering to the needs of at least 240 families across the two areas.
“As emergency response, we distributed clean water in four deliveries to Krajan 5 and Grobyok areas to meet the basic needs of drought-hit residents,” the official concluded.
