Kano State Government says it has executed development projects worth over N928 billion across the state in the last two years, while revoking several contracts over poor performance as part of efforts to enforce accountability in public procurement.
The Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, disclosed this during a press briefing on the infrastructure projects executed under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He said the government had undertaken 1,508 projects across the state’s 44 local government areas, out of which 799 have been completed, while 709 are at various stages of completion.
The commissioner also revealed that the government had recommended the revocation of several contracts that failed to meet contractual obligations, stressing that the move underscored the administration’s commitment to quality project delivery and prudent management of public funds.
He added that the government had so far paid contractors over N600 billion, while outstanding payments were being processed based on contractors’ requests and project milestones.
Sumaila said the projects span critical sectors, including roads, urban renewal, security, healthcare, education, transportation, water supply and other social infrastructure aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.
On security, the commissioner said the government invested over N6.8 billion in the construction of Neighbourhood Watch security divisions in 36 local government areas to strengthen community policing and improve public safety.
