Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology held an intensive series of preparatory activities for teachers assigned to senior high schools participating in the government’s Garuda Top School initiative.
The program is primarily intended to produce high-quality students and graduates capable of gaining admission to leading universities worldwide.
Deputy Minister Stella Christie said in a statement here on Monday that Garuda Top Schools are a manifestation of President Prabowo Subianto’s long-term investment in developing excellent human resources aimed at advancing the national journey toward becoming a developed country.
She emphasized that the program’s success lies in the capacity of its educators, who have passed stringent selection processes and are expected to nurture “future leaders offering global insight and local sensitivity.”
On that note, she said the government considers building a pool of quality teachers as important as developing adequate facilities and devising a proper curriculum for the program.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Fauzan called on all Garuda School educators to keep in mind the importance of professional integrity in carrying out duty.
He argued that top education must be built on a balance between intellectual intelligence, mental health, and character maturity among teachers in the program.
“Being healthy and intelligent is not enough to pursue excellence, as these two factors must be coupled with sanity. By being sane I mean upholding integrity and responsibility to the state, the public, and family,” Fauzan affirmed.
The deputy minister went on to urge Garuda School teachers to continue learning, adapting, and becoming role models for students to navigate challenges ahead.
A total of 54 educators from five Garuda senior high schools participated in the training held from June 29 to July 2, where they discussed the curriculum, school governance, the boarding school concept, character education, and strategies for meeting international education standards.
The activity produced several documents critical for program implementation, such as guidelines for school orientation, dormitory rules, key performance indicators, and plans for a learning management system.
Participants also received briefings on global best practices, including measures to strengthen students’ language proficiency and academic performance, as well as college counseling services.
