A 17-year-old girl has been found dead in a remote Northern Territory community, with police treating her death as suspicious.
Police found the girl in a residential house in Galiwin'ku, a remote community on Elcho Island, after receiving a report shortly after 11am that she was unconscious.
In a statement, an NT Police Force spokesperson said remote police officers had visited the home, along with local clinic workers, but the girl had been declared dead at the scene.
"A 34-year-old man has since been arrested, with detectives from the Serious Crime Section continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death," the spokesperson said.
Police have confirmed the man in custody and the girl were known to each other and that the matter is being treated as a domestic violence incident.
