Malta’s Ambassador To Libya Under Police Investigation Over Harassment Allegations

The nature of the alleged harassment has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear what relationship, if any, existed between Aquilina and the embassy employee. No charges have been filed, and the allegations remain under police investigation.

Aquilina is a veteran diplomat who was appointed Malta’s ambassador to Libya in September 2025, having previously served as Malta’s representative to Palestine, consul general in Istanbul and chargé d’affaires in Denmark.
