Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has flagged off the distribution of appointment letters to 2,158 newly recruited teachers for the state’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), stating that the exercise will enhance the quality of education across the state.
Speaking during the ceremony in Katsina, the governor described the recruitment as another milestone in his administration’s efforts to rebuild the education sector through sustained investment in human capital.
Radda said the exercise followed a transparent, merit-based and rigorous selection process aimed at deploying qualified teachers to schools with the greatest staffing needs.
According to him, his administration recruited and deployed 7,323 teachers in 2023 and also employed more than 1,800 healthcare workers this year.
He said the latest recruitment further demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving public service delivery.
He disclosed that over 25,000 teachers have undergone capacity-building programmes, while the government introduced a N30,000 rural teachers’ allowance, distributed 18,000 digital tablets, procured electronic motorcycles for teachers serving hard-to-reach communities and established a Centre for Teacher Development and Training.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, said 64,598 applicants applied for the recruitment exercise.
He added that 8,889 candidates were shortlisted after screening, 3,683 passed the computer-based test and advanced to oral interviews, while 2,158 candidates were eventually selected.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Ashiru Nura thanked the governor for ensuring a transparent recruitment process, saying he secured the appointment without knowing anyone in government.
