MANILA, Philippines — Parts of Northern Luzon could be placed under tropical cyclone wind signals as early as Tuesday night or Wednesday morning as Super Typhoon Bavi approaches the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), although the chance of landfall over Luzon remains low, the state weather bureau said Monday.
In Tropical Cyclone Advisory No. 1 issued at 11 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Bavi is forecast to enter PAR between Tuesday evening and early Wednesday, when it will be assigned the local name Inday.
Despite the low chance of landfall over Luzon, Pagasa said the cyclone’s intensity and the wide extent of its strong winds could still affect parts of the country.

Possible wind signals
The weather bureau said tropical cyclone wind signals may be raised over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon as early as Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, with the highest warning during the cyclone’s passage likely reaching Signal No. 2 or 3.
Pagasa also said wind signals could still be raised over the eastern portions of Southern Luzon and Visayas.
“Due to the uncertainty in terms of radius of strong winds, the possibility of raising wind signals over the eastern portions of Southern Luzon and Visayas is not ruled out,” the advisory read.
Heavy rains, rough seas expected
Meanwhile, gusty conditions are expected to begin affecting much of the country between Tuesday and Wednesday due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.

The combined effects of the southwest monsoon and Super Typhoon Bavi are also forecast to bring heavy rains over the northern and western portions of the country. Pagasa said a Weather Advisory may be issued in anticipation of the heavy rainfall.
For coastal waters, the weather bureau said a Gale Warning associated with rough to very rough sea conditions is expected to be issued by Wednesday over the northern and eastern seaboards of the Philippines.
