Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Padel Association (PBPI), Mochtar Sarman, said Indonesia has gained increasing trust from the International Padel Federation (FIP) to host international-standard tournaments.
He explained that the increase in the number of tournaments reflects FIP's positive assessment of Indonesia's organization of international competitions.
"Last year, we were entrusted to host two tournaments, and they were very pleased with what we had done. That is why this year, we have been entrusted with more with six tournaments," Sarman said during a press conference on the FIP Bronze-Promises Jakarta 2026 here on Monday.
He explained that Indonesia is once again hosting an FIP Bronze tournament in Jakarta after staging one in Yogyakarta at the end of May.
While PBPI was entrusted to organize only two FIP Bronze tournaments last year, the number has increased to six events in 2026, to be held in Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Banten, and Bali, including additional FIP Promises tournaments for junior age groups.
According to him, the expansion of the international tournament calendar not only reflects FIP's trust in Indonesia but also provides more opportunities for national athletes to gain experience by competing against international players.
In addition to athlete development, hosting international tournaments is also expected to have a positive impact on the sports tourism sector
PBPI refers to the concept as "padel tourism" which aims to provide a positive experience for foreign athletes and officials competing in Indonesia.
He added that the development of padel in Indonesia is evident from the growing number of domestic participants.
After the Yogyakarta series at the end of May, which attracted only around 120 Indonesian participants, the number has increased to around 300 participants for the Jakarta series.
Meanwhile, the FIP Bronze-Promises Jakarta 2026 is being held at Rana Grounds in South Jakarta from July 6-12, with a total of 510 participants from 31 countries.
