Person dies after car goes into Aorere River

A person has died after a car went into the Aorere River near Collingwood-Puponga Main Road on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Ferntown Bridge in the Tasman District around 4pm.

Police said one person was found in a serious condition, but despite best efforts by emergency services, they died at the scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
