Kathmandu. Police have arrested the man accused of exposing himself to a young woman on a street in Imadol, Lalitpur, after a video related to the incident went viral on social media.
The suspect, identified as Surendra Bhatt, originally from Bajura, was arrested in Imadol on Monday, a day after the incident.
According to Superintendent of Police Gautam Mishra, the spokesperson for the Lalitpur District Police Office, the accused is a government employee serving in the education sector. Police said they are still verifying the exact office where he is employed.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the young woman was walking alone in Imadol. According to the police and the victim's video shared on her social media, Bhatt exposed himself in front of her.
Instead of fleeing, the woman used her smartphone to record the suspect after the incident and confronted him. The video, uploaded to TikTok at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, quickly went viral and drew widespread public attention.
Police said they received information about the incident on Monday and immediately launched a search operation, which led to Bhatt's arrest later that same day.
SP Mishra said police contacted the victim after taking the suspect into custody and are awaiting her formal complaint before proceeding with further legal action.
"The victim is coming to the police office to file a complaint. Once the complaint is registered, we will proceed with the investigation and take action in accordance with the law," Mishra said.
The victim's decision to record and confront the suspect has been widely praised on social media, with many users describing her actions as a courageous response that helped police identify and apprehend the accused.
