The incident happened at around 5am in Triq Ħaż-Żabbar, when a 58-year-old cab driver from Birkirkara reportedly lost control of his MG4 before ploughing straight into the monument.
The impact caused significant damage to the landmark and injured two passengers travelling in the vehicle, a 19-year-old German man and his 50-year-old mother, who were both taken to hospital by ambulance. Their condition is still unknown.
