The Leaders' Retreat demonstrates the maturity of trust and the strategic value of Indonesia-Singapore relations,
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto said his bilateral meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was conducted in a sincere and forward-looking manner to address future challenges.
"We held intensive and very productive talks. They were heart-to-heart, open, and forward-looking. We agreed that if there are any misunderstandings or misperceptions, we will resolve them openly as friends," President Prabowo said at the Merdeka Palace here on Monday.
According to him, openness between national leaders is a key pillar in identifying and resolving potential misunderstandings at both the tactical and strategic levels.
He said the mature relationship between the two countries is reflected in their commitment to prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy in responding to regional and global developments.
President Prabowo added that the understanding symbolizes the maturity of bilateral diplomatic relations, which are built on a strong foundation of mutual trust.
"The Leaders' Retreat demonstrates the maturity of trust and the strategic value of Indonesia-Singapore relations," he said while outlining the outcomes of the annual Leaders' Retreat between Indonesia and Singapore.
Moreover, he added that the maturity of the relationship is also reflected in the two countries' shared views on managing strategic maritime corridors, particularly with regard to maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Malacca.
Indonesia and Singapore agreed to safeguard the Strait of Malacca from risks such as pollution, maritime accidents, and piracy by continuing to coordinate with Malaysia and Thailand. The management of the international shipping lane will continue to be guided by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to ensure the waterway stays open and secure for all users.
