Prabowo calls economy cornerstone of Indonesia-Singapore ties

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto stressed that economic cooperation remains at the core of Indonesia-Singapore relations, highlighting intensified collaboration in trade, connectivity, energy, the digital economy, cybersecurity, and food security.

“The economic cooperation we maintain remains the principal pillar of our ties. We are witnessing stronger cooperation across all fields,” he remarked while issuing a joint statement with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Monday.

Speaking at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Prabowo underscored his decision to assign Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, to carry out cooperation in cross-border electricity supplies and pursue sustainable trade relations.

He noted that Indonesia and Singapore had also come to agreement to step up their partnership in food and supply chains.

This relationship extends to defense and security, he added, ensuring that both governments remain committed to the agreements they have reached.

“A strong partnership is one built on trust, not only between governments but also between the peoples of both countries. With that in mind, connectivity, tourism, education, and cooperation among youths carry great significance,” Prabowo affirmed.

He conveyed the remarks on the occasion of the annual Indonesia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat, which he said had produced a total of 26 deliverables comprising 18 intergovernmental cooperation agreements and eight business-to-business deals.

“This haul reflects our ever broader and deeper cooperation,” the president stated.

The head of state further celebrated the bilateral relations, describing the Indonesia-Singapore friendship as a typical yet special bond grounded in shared interests in regional stability and prosperity as neighboring nations.

Reflecting on his meeting with Wong, Prabowo characterized the talks as intensive, productive, open, and forward-looking.

“As good friends, we have agreed to resort to an open manner should misunderstandings or misperceptions arise between us,” he remarked.
