Prabowo says Indonesia and Singapore must stay strong partners

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that stability and prosperity are shared interests that Indonesia and Singapore must safeguard through sustainable cooperation in Southeast Asia.

"As close neighbors, Indonesia and Singapore have become close partners. We share mutual interests because we are in the same region, making stability and prosperity a common goal for both of us," he said.

Speaking during a joint press statement with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, the president said that regional prosperity can never be achieved without a solid foundation of peace and stability.

Therefore, efforts to preserve regional peace must be continuous and unwavering for the benefit of both nations. Prabowo also reaffirmed the Singaporean delegation of his personal and institutional commitment to safeguarding the long-term continuity of Indonesia-Singapore bilateral ties.

"I have demonstrated this commitment over several decades. Personally, it is my commitment and my conviction that Singapore and Indonesia must be strong partners and maintain excellent cooperation," the president said.

He noted that a robust synergy between Indonesia and Singapore would do more than just deliver positive results that meet the needs of the people in both neighboring countries.

Beyond this, the strategic partnership is expected to make a significant contribution significantly to strengthening global economic growth, as well as security and stability across the Southeast Asian region.

President Prabowo received Prime Minister Wong at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday for the annual Leaders’ Retreat to strengthen bilateral relations. This year's meeting also serves as a critical milestone as both nations gear up to mark the 60th anniversary of official diplomatic relations in 2027.
