CEBU CITY, Philippines — Senior bowler Tessie Dante snapped a lengthy title drought after capturing the Sugbuanon Bowlers United (Sugbu) “Bowler of the Month” championship on Sunday, July 5, at the SM Seaside Bowling and Leisure Center.
It was Dante’s first Sugbu title since winning the organization’s bowling shootout tournament in October last year.

Less than a year later, Dante rediscovered her winning touch by edging former champion and elite bowler Jomar Jumapao in a closely contested championship match, scoring 210 pinfalls.
Jumapao finished with 204 pinfalls, an impressive effort considering he competed without a handicap, while Dante benefited from a 33-pin handicap.
Multi-titled Sugbu campaigner Rene Ceniza placed third with 169 pinfalls, followed by fellow senior bowler Dory Enoveso with 168. Matt Zamora settled for fifth with 157 pinfalls, while Vivian Padawan rounded out the top six with 139.
Dante secured her spot in the finals after placing second in Division B during the qualifying round with 897 pinfalls. Padawan topped the division with 939 pinfalls, as both advanced automatically to the championship round.

In Division C, Enoveso emerged on top with 872 pinfalls. Flor Hodgkinson finished second with 778, while Zamora placed third with 770.
With the victory, Dante earned a berth in the prestigious Sugbu “Bowler of the Year” tournament in December, where she will face the organization’s other monthly champions for the season-ending crown.
