Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said he had appointed sovereign wealth fund Danantara to implement the deal on electricity trade agreed with Singapore last year.
“Indonesia has assigned Danantara Investment Management Agency to implement the cross-border electricity trade cooperation. The agency is also entrusted with handling future trade activities,” he remarked at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
Prabowo made the announcement while issuing a joint statement with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during the annual Leaders’ Retreat, which produced 26 documents of government-to-government and business-to-business cooperation across sectors.
The president pointed out that Danantara is responsible for executing Indonesia’s plan to supply at least 3.4 gigawatts of electricity to Singapore by 2035 while facilitating bilateral investments and harnessing national renewable energy potential.
Indonesia and Singapore first unveiled the power project during the 2025 Leaders’ Retreat.
Aside from electricity exports, Prabowo noted that the two countries are committed to expanding collaboration in the digital economy, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, food security, supply chains, defense, connectivity, tourism, education, and youth development.
“This excellent cooperation will not only deliver benefits to the peoples of Indonesia and Singapore; it will contribute to stability, growth, and prosperity across Southeast Asia,” he said.
Prabowo and Wong met at the Leaders’ Retreat to exchange views on multiple issues and cooperation across various fields, including energy security, with talks reaffirming Indonesia’s commitment to supplying clean electricity to Singapore under the agreed framework.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto had earlier provided updates on the energy deal, saying its implementation was expected to begin within the next one to one-and-a-half years.
He said in early June 2026 that the low-carbon power exports remain contingent on the completion of the required transmission infrastructure.
According to him, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia was still reviewing technical aspects of the project.
