Lionel Richie Cancels First Night of His Tour Mid-Show After Feeling Dizzy
Lionel Richie is ready to perform all night long.
After the "Stuck On You" singer postponed the Illinois and Ohio dates of his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour following a dizzy spell that cut short his opening night in Minnesota on June 24, he shared that he's on the mend.
"Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love," Richie wrote on Instagram on July 4. "I'm doing well, and I'm grateful for all of you."
Although the 77-year-old had to pause the beginning of his North American tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, he thanked fans for attending his June 30 and July 1 concerts.
"Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy," he continued. "The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we made real memories together."
When it comes to his future tour dates, he added, "Let's party all night long!"
Richie had gotten dizzy while singing "Dancing on the Ceiling," the ninth song of his tracklist, at his St. Paul show last month.
"What I have learned from my years of being in the business, when you're feeling dizzy, sit your ass down," he told the audience, as seen in clips shared to social media. "When you are feeling strange about yourself, sit your ass down."
"I want you to know that's the first time in the history of 'Dancing on the Ceiling' I've done it sitting down," he continued, before joking, "It's a bad sign. That's a bad sign, y'all."

He ultimately left 15 minutes after singing The Commodores' 1978 song "Three Times a Lady." Following a pause, saxophonist Dino Soldo announced that he wouldn't be finishing his set, explaining, "Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He won't be able to continue with the show."
The American Idol Judge didn't take the stage for his next two shows.
"Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his show on Friday, June 26, in Chicago, IL, and Saturday, June 27, in Columbus, OH," Live Nation Chicago shared on Instagram on June 25. "Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans."
