Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reaffirmed ASEAN's stance on resolving disputes peacefully through dialogue and diplomacy across all regions.
In a joint statement at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, President Prabowo stated that during the Singapore-Indonesia Leaders’ Retreat, the two leaders discussed various issues ranging from bilateral cooperation to regional and global affairs.
"We reaffirmed that ASEAN maintains that every dispute must be resolved peacefully through dialogue and diplomacy. Not only in our region, but across all regions," President Prabowo said.
He noted that Indonesia and Singapore are close partners that share mutual interests, citing stability and prosperity as a priority of both parties.
In this regard, the shared interests of both nations must be safeguarded, including through mutually beneficial cooperation.
"We just held an intensive, highly productive, open, and forward-looking heart-to-heart meeting. We agreed that if any misunderstandings or misperceptions arise, we will resolve them openly as friends," Prabowo said.
The two leaders also discussed the Malacca Strait, with President Prabowo and PM Wong reaffirming their commitment to keeping the strategic shipping lane open and accessible to all parties.
Furthermore, a total of 26 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) across various sectors were announced as concrete achievements of the two nations' partnership. These comprise 18 government-to-government (G2G) agreements and eight business-to-business (B2B) agreements.
